Customs/rituals/traditions that german banned or discourged
Type of religion that was practiced- Change-

How did German take over Tanzania?
A German named Karl Peters, made an agreement to protect the villagers inside of Tanzania in exchange for its resources and use of its ports. The Arbs had used the coast line as a tradig post for years by the Germans using it, they were able to trade to Africa and Asia. At the time other European nations were taking over similar nations in Africa, for more land.
Who is Karl Peters?
Peters was born in 1856 and helped found German East Africa, today’s Tanzania in 1884. After studying British history at Berlin University, him and two others traveled to East Africa and made treaties with the chiefs of Useguha, Nguru, IJsagara and Ukami in German’s favour. When he came back, he received honours from the nation and published an account of his expedition. He actually was trying to acquire new territories in the upper Nile but that might cause a threat to the British.
So Useguha, Nguru, IJsagara and Ukami are all inside whats now Tanzania?
Yes
What exactly did the Germans mean by “Protection”?
Bismarck granted military protection of the areas by issuing a letter of imperial protection and German warships were even sent there for the flag hissing ceremony. They took over the coast line with force and claimed first over the inland territories within the first few years.
What happened?
The coastal Arab people revolted in 1888 under the leadership of Bushiri-bi-Salim. The Germans couldn’t hold up against them and lost 18 coastal towns, being able to only hold two ports.
